The Magoons are said to have originated in Scotland. Magoon is Gaelic Magorian, which means "son of the smith." A Henry Magoon was in Dover, N.H. in 1657, then moved to Exeter, N.H. in 1683. A John Magoon (b. Scotland in 1625) was in Scituate, MA in 1655. He moved to Hingham in 1662. Then there was a Jonathan Magoon in Hingham in 1657. Magoon is from MacGowen.
