Curtis attended school at the Subscription Schools of Brandywine Hundred. He bought 60 acres of land to farm and rear livestock. Later, he and Mary moved to Talleyville. He was a Whig and later a Republican. He was a Presbitarian. His will is dated Nov. 1, 1869.
