Took part bravely in the victory of Poictiers. He married (1) in 1338 Elizabeth, dau. of Lord Welles, having: 1. John, 4th Baron d. 1398; 2. Thomas 5th Baron De La Warr, a priest, d. 1426. Roger married (2) in 1358 Eleanor, dau. of Lord Mowbray, and died in 1370 aged 43 leaving one daughter only, Joan, who married Sir Thomas West, Lord West, whose descendants succeeded to the title of La Warr.
