The earliest one traced to the De La Warr line, was knighted in 1326 in the reign of Edward II. He served in Flanders and Brittany in the reighn of Edward III and for his services was created a Baron. He was known as Thomas de West and was probably from County Devon where Wests have been found down to the present time. He was Governor of Christ Chuch Castle; summoned to Parliament in 1333 for Warwickshire as Baron West.
